Introducing a World-First: Ninja Rice Bran Milk – The Next Big Thing in Plant-Based Nutrition!

We’re thrilled to introduce you to Ninja Rice Bran Milk — a revolutionary plant-based beverage made from the nutrient-rich outer layer and germ of Japanese rice bran.

Research by Tokyo University of Science on Japanese Rice Bran-derived Nanoparticles (rbNPs)

A research group from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Tokyo University of Science has discovered that exosome-like rice bran-derived nanoparticles (rbNPs) exhibit strong anti-cancer activity.

What makes it different?
Developed in partnership with leading Japanese universities and biotech labs, Ninja Rice Bran Milk is the world’s first drink made using nanoparticles extracted from rice bran, packed with natural antioxidants like γ-oryzanol and tocotrienols. These compounds have shown promising anti-cancer and anti-aging effects in both lab and animal studies.

First unveiled as “Ninja Zap” at the 2004 Natural Products Expo, this innovation caused a stir. Now, two decades of R&D have led to our signature product:

NINJA RICE BRAN MILK!

  • Delicious!
  • Dairy-free & allergen-friendly!
  • Nutritionally powerful for all ages!
  • Made from 100% Japanese rice!
  • Trademarked in both Japan and the USA!

Innovative Development of Ninja Rice Bran Milk Utilizing Byproducts from Japanese Brawn Rice

A research group from the Department of Pharmacy at Tokyo University of Science has discovered that rice bran-derived nanoparticles (rbNPs) with exosome-like properties demonstrate significant anticancer activity. In response to these findings, Just the Berries Japan Inc. has initiated the development and production of nutrient-rich Rice Bran Milk, an immune-boosting beverage created through the emulsification of rice bran and the processing of rbNPs.

This product represents the first functional drink derived from rice bran and germ, which have typically been considered waste materials. The rice bran is rapidly oxidized due to the presence of lipase enzymes in the residual byproducts generated during the production of white rice for consumption. Historically, the production of plant-derived nanoparticles was deemed unfeasible; however, rbNPs can now be produced in large quantities at low cost and have exhibited promising pharmacological activities in recent studies.

Rice bran, a byproduct of the rice milling process, is often discarded despite its rich content of beneficial compounds, such as γ-oryzanol and γ-tocotrienol, which are recognized for their anticancer properties. Consequently, rbNPs derived from rice bran are emerging as a potential candidate for novel cancer therapies.

The research team from Tokyo University of Science isolated rbNPs by suspending rice bran from Japanese countryside rice in phosphate-buffered saline, followed by filtration and centrifugation. These nanoparticles have been shown to selectively induce cytotoxic effects on cancer cells. In tests involving colon26 cells (a mouse colon cancer cell line), rbNPs exhibited a stronger cytotoxic effect compared to other plant-derived nanoparticles and the anticancer drug Doxil. This action is believed to result from the suppression of β-catenin and cyclin D1 expression, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells.

To investigate the in vivo anticancer effects of rbNPs, the team conducted experiments on a mouse model of peritoneal dissemination with transplanted colon26 cells. After intraperitoneal administration of rbNPs, significant inhibition of cancer cell growth was observed, with no adverse side effects reported.

These findings suggest that rbNPs hold promise as both a novel anticancer agent and a beneficial beverage for promoting children's growth while potentially mitigating aging. Supported by various universities and research institutions, Just the Berries Group (Japan and the United States) has successfully developed a commercial production system for rice bran-derived exosome-like nanoparticles intended for daily consumption. Just the Berries Japan Co., Ltd. plans to launch Ninja Rice Bran Milk in 1000 ml paper packs by November 2025.
